First Responders

Rising at the windows

Is not that, but the sun.

Day keeps happening

As if not undone.

Others' presence confirms

We are not alone.

Disbelieving, we clutch

At our telephone.

We are all responders, essential

To our lives

Whatever we have managed

To do this time.
